The display gardens and walkways surround four ponds, five waterfalls and a babbling brook featuring aquatic grasses and water lilies. Flora and fauna abound, including goldfish, ducks, turtles, frogs and five varieties of nesting birds. Guests may help themselves to fresh produce from 11 fruit trees, kiwifruit vines, raspberries, strawberries, rhubarb and blueberries in season. Four flowering magnolias, 26 climbing clematis, seven wisterias and four large, weeping willow trees complete this picturesque southern plantation setting. 

For gardening-types, the best times to view include late-April for the 1200+ tulips, wisteria and magnolias in bloom, and August – September for the “Best Bloom” dahlias and giant “Show” chrysanthemums from the 100+ dahlia and chrysanthemum plants located throughout the property.

The Plantation Gardens
Well-known for its exquisite gardens, Alders Plantation contains over 570 different species of trees, flowering shrubs & bushes, totaling 2200 plants. The property includes an 11-tree orchard, various fruits (raspberries, rhubarb, blueberries, blackberries, kiwifruit, bananas), giant dahlias, delphinium, show chrysanthemums, lupines, liatris, over 1000 daffodils and narcissus, 1200 tulips, 80+ hostas, ferns and astilbe. There are four ponds, five waterfalls and a babbling brook running through the property with 23 varieties of water plants (grasses, iris, marigolds and lilies) plus frogs, turtles and ducks.
