Plantation is a special character home, premised after the Mississippi
River plantation homes north of New Orleans. This
1500 sq. ft. executive home offers a sense of privacy as it is
situated on a small cul-de-sac and is surrounded on two sides by wooded
lots. It is just five minutes walking distance through the woods to the
main town on the island, Ganges Village or to the harbour shoreline. The
Main House features four double French doors opening onto a covered veranda
with six-person hot tub that overlooks Ganges Harbour and Goat Island. The
extensively landscaped 1/2 acre property features over 570 species of plants
with over 2,200 flowering trees, shrubs, bulbs and tubers.
The display gardens
and walkways surround four ponds, five waterfalls and a babbling brook
featuring aquatic grasses and water lilies. Flora and fauna abound, including
goldfish, ducks, turtles, frogs and five varieties of nesting birds. Guests
may help themselves to fresh produce from 11 fruit trees, kiwifruit vines,
raspberries, strawberries, rhubarb and blueberries in season. Four flowering
magnolias, 26 climbing clematis, seven wisterias and four large, weeping
willow trees complete this picturesque southern plantation setting. |

Amenities The property offers a sense of privacy as it is situated on a 10-home cul-de-sac and is surrounded on two sides by wooded lots, yet is convenient to town only a 5-min walk to Ganges Village or the beach. The property is on the Maxwell Lake water supply (reputed to be the best in the Gulf Islands). A 120-ft "widow-maker" Douglas fir, used as a roosting tree by a mated pair of bald eagles from September to June, sits just 75 yards from the veranda. The best time is often the morning, when spectacular sunrises warm the veranda, where one can enjoy morning tea, or the 26-jet hot tub to massage those aches away! |
