Recently renovated and expanded, this totally self-contained 430 sq ft suite has three exterior screened sliding doors to its own deck and patio in addition to the door entering the Main House. The main bed has a 3-in memory foam mattress and 600+ thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets for added comfort. The couch in the lounge area opens to a custom-built, queen-sized sofa-bed with a 5-inch memory foam mattress. (2 Queen-size beds; 4-person maximum).

There are two bistro tables – one in the suite and another outside on the suite’s private patio that overlooks the property’s largest waterfall. Because of the three skylights and southern exposure, guests may want to open the sliding doors and operate the fans in the afternoon to create a good cross breeze on warm weather days. On cooler days or nights, the in-floor heating can be supplemented with forced kickboard heating by thermostat.

The 43” flat-screen HD Smart TV is on its own satellite feed and provides over 300 channels plus a variety of programs that will work with all smart phones. The fully-equipped kitchenette around the corner from the private library includes a coffeemaker, microwave and mini-fridge where you can store snacks.

Jungle

Bamboo, wicker and rattan furniture, grass-cloth wallpaper plus a geometric grass print duvet help define this Jungle theme. Wall hangings include Indonesian wood masks, a signed ‘Buffalo Print’ by famous Canadian artist Jean Mackay Henrich, and a Persian copper plate from Ankara, Turkey. The side tables feature authentic Indian brass lamps and the elephant, carved from pure Acacia wood, is from Zimbabwe. 1 Queen bed; 2-person maximum.

Marine

This bedroom, with views to the back gardens and large waterfall, has an ensemble of nautical items. Authentic mariner charts for north & south Salt Spring denote the ocean-bottom topography. The pictured tall sailing ships are from Boston Harbour during America’s celebration of its bicentennial in 1976. The extensive seashell collection on display was obtained in 1968 from Tahiti, American Samoa, & Fiji. The stained-glass window of Robert Bateman’s famous killer whale print was commissioned to a local stained-glass artisan in memory of the owner’s cousin, Dr. Robin Best, a marine biologist & curator of killer whales for aquariums, who provided the Amazon exhibit to the Vancouver Aquarium. The sailor’s jersey hanging on the closet door is an authentic uniform worn by a sailor that hoisted the sails on the 351-ft. four-mast Sea Cloud - the largest passenger-carrying square rigger on the ocean today. The tall-sailing ship models come from as far away as Newport, RI and Sydney, AU.
